Han tog initiativ till en specialtidningssektion 1961 och tre år senare avknppades den till ett eget förlag, som fick det beskrivande namnet </ins>Specialtidningsförlaget<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. Den som fick i uppgift att utveckla specialtidningarna var [[Erik Westerberg]]. Specialtidningarna var avsedda att konkurrera med TV om läsarnas tid. Specialtidningarna hade relativt låga upplagor jämfört med de mer allmänt hållna veckotidningarna, men det specialiserade innehållet innebar att köparen var beredd att betala mer för produkten. Utformningen var en balansgång mellan fackmaterial och underhållning. Det var viktigt att innehållet inte var riktat mot specialister utan mer populärjournalistiskt. Papperskvaliteten var också viktig.
