Steve Ditko, amerikansk serieskapare, född den 2 november 1927.

Ditko började teckna serier för en armétidning under sin militärtjänstgöring i Tyskland 1945. Han fick sedan arbete hos serieförlaget Charlton år 1954.

Tidiga år hos Charlton

För Charlton producerade han under 50-talet en stor mängd skräck- och science fictionserier i serietidningar av typen:

Redan under de tidiga åren på 50-talet utvecklade Ditko en okonventionell, egen stil som är lätt att känna igen. För att få fram dramatik i sina serier använde Ditko till exempel skuggor och poser på ett för tiden innovativt sätt, samtidigt som rutdesignen höll sig inom dåtidens konventioner. Teckningsmässigt var han främst inspirerad av Mort Meskin, Jerry Robinson och Will Eisner.

Kärriär på Marvel

Efter åren på Charlton fick Ditko arbete hos Marvel och Stan Lee, som hade nya fräscha ideér inom superhjältegenren. Tillsammans skapade de serierna "Spider-Man" och "Dr Strange", båda serier av ett nytt slag, med mera mänskliga hjältar.

Ditkos mest kända arbeten för Marvel:

Han gjorde även inhopp på andra Marvel-serier, som "Hulk", "Iron Man" med flera.

Senare verksamhet

För skräckserieförlaget Warren gjorde Ditko på 60-talet serier i tidningarna

På senare år arbetade han också för bland annat DC Comics samt återigen en kort tid för Charlton. Även Marvel fick se några serier av honom på 80-talet. Efter 1998 har ingenting nytt av Ditko publicerats.

Ditko har på egen hand gjort udda superhjälteserier som "The Question", "The Creeper", "Odd Man" och "Hawk & Dove" samt filosofiskt lagda serier som "Mr. A", som starkt betonar individuellt ansvar och egna val, inspirerad av Ayn Rand's filosofi[1].
