The trilogy. In 2014 published Halfdan Pisket the first book of a trilogy called Desertør (Deserter). The book is about his father when he was young and his life growing up in a village between Turkey and Armenia in the shadow of the Armenian Genocide. After loosing people he loved to the conflict, the character spirals down into darkness and refuses to join the Turkish army. He becomes a deserter and is sentenced to prison where he is tortured.
The second book, Kakerlak was published in 2015, and is about the fathers escape into Denmark. After being released from the Turkish military prison, he finds himself a stranger in his own country. He finds an escape in the possibility to become a “guest worker” in Denmark. He goes from one hard job to the next as a factory worker trying to keep the horror of his past behind him. But the past has a tight hold of him, and even though he finds love and friendship, he also falls into the world of crime.
The books have been made from interviews that Halfdan has held with his father, and from his fathers anecdotes the comic was created.
Halfdan is currently working on the third book of the trilogy, and has started, together with the publishing house Gladiator, a three months comics course called Skole for Tegneseriekunst, based on the notion that comics belongs in The Arts.
